While in Palm Desert with friends, we had the opportunity to enjoy a dinner at Morton’s Steakhouse. I had heard of Morton’s Steakhouse before, but had never eaten there. As we drove by one evening, looking for a place to have dinner, the tantilizing aroma coming from Morton’s made us turn around and come back! We were greeted by a friendly valet who took care of the car for us.
The Ambience
We entered through double doors into a lovely room rich with dark woods and appropriate lighting. We could see men in tuxedos in the next room, attending to tables. The well-dressed hostess sat us at a table for 4 with crisp white linens. My kinda place. The restaurant offered booths along the wall, or private-feeling tables throughout the room. All employees were well mannered and well dressed.
The Food and Service
The 4 of us admired our surroundings and began examining the wine and martini lists. Our server arrived, bid us good evening, introduced himself and offered to bring us some drinks. I was curious about their margaritas…being a margarita girl myself, but he highly recommended trying one of their martinis. I was feeling adventurous, so I did! I ordered a Lemon Drop Martini. A friend of ours ordered a martini featuring several items, including grapefruit juice. I like sweeter things, so, I favored my martini over his. =)
The Lemon Drop Martini was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Next, the server came with a 2 level cart to “show” us the menu! I have never been to a restaurant that does this! It was really a great touch. He showcased their fresh vegetables (yes, he had them with him), their cuts of steak and fish, then, he lifted up a lobster…it was alive! Talk about fresh. It took him about 4-5 minutes to fully explain their ingredients and how they prepare these items. Then he asked for questions…I couldn’t help myself, the only thing I could think of was, “Uh, could you repeat that?” That got a good laugh from the group.
I selected the Oscar Filet, filet mignon with crab meat and asparagus (incredibly tasty). My husband had the broiled salmon steak, to which he requested extra garlic be added (he LOVED it). Our friends opted for a larger cut of the Oscar Filet, which they split (they really enjoyed it). Throughout our dining experience we enjoyed friendly, top notch service, with top quality food. I was impressed. I WILL eat there again.
