The College Of The Desert Street Fair is a weekly event that sponsors three hundred and forty vendors who offer a wide range of gifts, from unique collectibles to clothing to other odds and ends. The College Of The Desert, of the Palm Desert in Coachella Valley in Riverside County, California, is a public two year community college with a little over 10,000 students.
The event happens every Saturday and Sunday, as spectators report, for as long they can remember. The Street Fair has grown considerably in recent years and has added to its entertainment, with many vendors selling all sorts of items, like golf supplies, board games, clothing, reading and sunglasses, home furnishings and backyard pieces, perfume and make up, and collectible jewelry (you can even form a Family Trust). There is also plenty of food, particularly on Saturday, and a large selection of art pieces. Many artists gather in the street fair to showcase their paintings and other merchandise.
Past visitors to the event suggest that you attend the street fair early in the summer and early in the day. Later summer months get very hot and if you’re surrounded by thousands of people in the peak afternoon, then that might be a miserable sightseeing experience. Parking is also a problem, and so arriving earlier in the day may help you to find an adequate space. You may have to take side streets or park behind some of the University buildings. For main parking lots a trolley may be available for transport, but otherwise, wear comfortable shoes because you have a great walking distance ahead of you!
The College Of The Desert Street Fair is opened on weekends from seven a.m. to two p.m. October through May, and from seven a.m. to noon, from June to September. The best part of all, despite all the walking and heat, parking is free, admission is free and you get free entertainment.
