We took a trip to Lake Tahoe recently, flying into the Reno airport. We discovered a very organized, pleasant, easy way to get from the airport to South Lake Tahoe.
The Reno Airport
We flew into the Reno Airport (the closest one), and purchased tickets on the South Tahoe Express, a “luxury” shuttle service to South Lake Tahoe and its hotels. The shuttle has regular departure times, and, the clerk we spoke with was very knowledgable and friendly.
The waiting area was very pleasantly decorated, with mountain scenes on the walls. The waiting area was close to the food court (thank goodness! I was starving!) and Peet’s Coffee (and I needed coffee!) My husband stayed with the luggage while I got us some breakfast.
We enjoyed our breakfast at the coffee table in the South Tahoe Express lounge and visited about our upcoming stay in Tahoe. We both love the majestic and inspiring feeling that you can’t help but get in Tahoe.
On The Shuttle
The shuttle arrived and we were informed, “time to board!” It was a luxury shuttle, bus size, complete with bathroom. The friendly and jovial driver placed our luggage under the bus and welcomed us aboard. We sat in the center/front of the shuttle. The driver shared many tips and stories with the passengers in front. I listened for awhile, then we started visiting again. I also finished my breakfast on the shuttle.
The ride took about 1.5 hours, and, it was gorgeous! The scenery was amazing. The driver was kind enough to take the turns slowly as we wound our way up the mountain. He dropped off passengers – front door service style. Ours, the new MontBleu Resort (formerly Caesars Tahoe), was the final stop.
One the way back, we learned from some friends of ours who had been misled by a hotel employee as to where to catch the shuttle to get back to the airport, where the proper place to catch the shuttle was. I strongly recommend asking the driver when he drops you off.
It was a relaxing and pleasant ride. We will take the shuttle again next time we visit Tahoe.
