Balboa Park in San Diego, California – Museums, Cathedrals, Lush Landscape and Adventure

Bridge canopied with trees in Balboa Park.If you’ve ever been to San Diego and never been to Balboa Park, you are missing out! We have been there several times, and, each time, there are always so many new things to see and enjoy. On this trip we explored some gardens and trees with enormous exposed root systems! We went to the Museum of Man, ate at an outdoor cafe overlooking a grassy area and a beautiful domed building, and just explored the grounds.

The Museum of Man
This popular museum is quite interesting.

We found that we actually learned and retained much of what we learned. There are fun quiz-type exhibits that help you test your understanding of what you just learned. We will visit this fun place again!

The Food and Landscape
Dome museum in Balboa Park. Our lunch was decent, but, in my opinion, a bit overpriced.

But hey, I was hungry, it was convenient, and the setting was quite lovely.

You can find themed gardens, lawns, and jungle-type areas throughout the park.

The “Huge Root” Tree
Large tree in San Diego's Balboa Park. This was one of our favorite finds. Located in a jungle-feel garden area near where we parked, this tree was enormous!

The roots were exposed and also enormous!

This made for a great photo spot.

A Cathedral?
Cathedral in Balboa. While meandering through the Museum of Man we discovered a balcony that looked over a room that looked like the inside of a cathedral. It seemed unusual…but was very pretty!
